Gavin Aquin Hernández ‘22
Editor-in-Chief
Gavin is a history and Hispanic studies double-major from Las Vegas, NV. When not managing Flat Hat Magazine or fixing computers, you can find him cozying up with a book — likely in Spanish or Italian — and a latte. Gavin is father to Chewie, an adorable Pembroke Welsh Corgi who has been eating his leather shoes since 2016. He hopes to travel the globe throughout his life, bouncing around nomadically until he can figure out what grown-up job he really wants.
Ethan Brown ‘21
Managing Editor
Ethan is an economics and government double-major, originally from Manassas, VA. He currently serves as The Flat Hat's Newspaper’s 110th editor-in-chief and is notorious for having interrupted the Turkish president's motorcade while jogging in Sarajevo last summer, as well as for his boundless fear of birds and other flying creatures.
Anna Boustany ‘21
Deputy Editor
Anna Boustany is a senior at the College, majoring in international relations and minoring in religious studies. She is currently the Flat Hat Newspaper’s Chief Operations Coordinator. Around campus, she volunteers as a tour guide, works as a Wellness Ambassador, and is a member of a social sorority. Feel free to ask her about how study abroad changed her, or about why the Twilight series is the best books + movies combo of the 21st century.
Alyssa Slovin ‘22
Creative Director
Alyssa is double-majoring in marketing and English in order to combine her love of reading and writing with her interest in Advertising and Publishing through their overlap in communication. Students can easily spot her across campus since she usually wears at least one article of yellow clothing, often with her yellow high-top sneakers. When she’s not in Williamsburg, she lives in Mount Laurel, NJ, which is about twenty minutes from Philadelphia.
Rebecca Klinger ‘22
Digital Director
Rebecca is a film/media major and business administration minor from Virginia Beach, VA. Rebecca is the proud owner of three pairs of crocs, in which she can often be seen traipsing around Williamsburg. Over the quarantine, she taught herself embroidery, made 20 new Spotify playlists, and read all of the Twilight books in an effort to feel productive.
Matthew Kortan ‘22
Creative Director
Matthew is a geology major from Gurnee, IL. When he is not out tracking mythological beasts and other urban legends, you might find Matthew experimenting with distortions on his bass guitar while watching spaghetti westerns. He encourages students seeking a jam session and/or discussion over matters relevant to Flat Hat Magazine to reach out to him via email, so long as said students are not fans of Phish or the Dave Matthews Band.
Caroline Katz ‘21
Digital Director
Caroline is majoring in art history, with Modern art being her favourite style. A resident of Herndon, VA, she is always on the lookout for new restaurants and hopes to one day run her own coffee shop and clothing line.
